Package Options 3-Sided Seal ![]() The PowerPouch IM packager is capable of sealing pouches in a variety of different ways. One method for sealing pouches is the 3-sided seal which seals the bag on the top and two sides prior to being cut and discharged. This pouch is very popular with powder fills such as drink mixes, cocoa, and dry soup mixes. 4-Sided Seal ![]() The PowerPouch IM packager is capable of sealing pouches in variety of different ways. One method for sealing pouches is the 4-sided seal which seals the bag on the sides, top, and bottom prior to being cut and discharged. Many customers prefer the look of the 4-sided seal pouch, which adds a crisp, even bottom seal to match the look of the side and top seals of the pouch. Bottom Gusset ![]() The PowerPouch IM packager is capable of forming pouches in variety of different ways. Adding a bottom gusset allows pouches to hold more product without changing the height or width. Most gusseted pouches are capable of standing for better presentation on store shelves. Stand-Up ![]() The Stand-Up pouch has all of the benefits of a Gusseted pouch, but includes a button seal, sealing the bottom corners of the pouch together, which forms a rounded bottom providing better stand-up capability. Zipper ![]() The PowerPouch IM packager can incorporate a zipper closure, which allows the pouches to be resealed after the original top seal has been removed. This feature can be added to new or existing machines, depending on the length of the bag forming section. The zipper applicator requires a powered unwind station, a zipper tensioning assembly, a zipper seal assembly and a crush seal assembly. Machine Options High Speed Funnel Conveyor
The High Speed Funnel Conveyor option offers the same reliability, ease-of-use, and flexibility as the standard PowerPouch® model with increased output capability. The High Speed Funnel Conveyor is ideally suited for a wide range of free flowing products, including powders, granules, and particulates. This option includes a funnel conveyor, special indexing cam, and top and side seal preheat mechanisms to increase production up to 50% over the standard PowerPouch® model. The High Speed Funnel Conveyor is the answer for those applications that require higher production output, or that can be filled through a funnel more efficiently than directly into the pouch. This system eliminates the need for vacuum openers and replaces them with a more positive filling system, capable of running at higher speeds. Servo ![]() The servo machine replaces the Ferguson indexer and clutch/brake assemblies used to drive the bag clamp conveyor and film feed roll. This allows the operator to adjust machine timing functions from the color touch screen operator interface and save the settings as a recipe, resulting in optimized machine performance and faster changeovers. By replacing standard Barrel Cam the servo indexer gives finer range of machine indexing. The servo indexer allows more fill time with faster pouch traveling time between indexing. Tandem ![]() The PowerPouch IM packager can be equipped with the tandem feature, which allows for faster production speeds by forming and filling two pouches per machine cycle, virtually doubling the machine output. The tandem pouches are cut into individual packages or can be perforated to provide a single, dual chambered pouch for complimentary products such as shampoo and conditioner. Machines can also be offered in a 3-up or 4-up format depending on the desired application. A tandem cutoff knife can be provided as part of the vacuum pickoff assembly to separate the tandem pouches into individual packages. As an alternative, an off-line slitter can be used to separate or perforate the pouches after discharge from the IM packager. Liquid Pump ![]() The PowerPouch is very popular with packagers of small liquid fills such as creams, lotions and multi chambered pouches that provide a variety products in a single pouch, such as shampoo, conditioner, and hand cream with separate chambers formed on the machine. Liquid fillers are also used in products such as microwave popcorn, to dose the heated oil and flavoring after the corn is filled. Fillers The PowerPouch® packager can be outfitted with a broad range of filling systems to accommodate Powders, Granules, Liquids, Creams, Tablets, Towelettes, Candies, Nuts, and Particulates. The standard design can accommodate a variety of different types of fillers mounted on a single machine. This unique capability allow sequential filling of multiple ingredients as well as the versatility and flexibility to package a wide range of products. The variety of filling options is limited only by the length of the machine and the scope of your product line. This machine will accommodate the following types of fillers: Auger ![]() The Auger Filler is an industry staple for filling both free and non-free flowing products into bags or pouches. Offered both with clutch-brake and servo drive systems, auger filers provide a simple repeatable method of accurately dosing powdered products. SPM has a working relationship with all major manufacturers of auger fillers, and can integrate any brand of filler to the PowerPouch IM packager. Southern Packaging can also provide rebuilt Bartelt® Model D clutch/brake fillers, or upgrade existing fillers with servo drives. Volumetric Cup ![]() Volumetric cup filling is a low cost alternative to a Combination Weigh Scale for products with consistent density and uniform shape such as nuts, corn, seeds, and dehydrated fruits and vegetables. Fill volume can be easily adjusted with telescopic cups and large volume changes can be made by changing the set of cups. Duckbill ![]() The duckbill inserting device can fill pouches with products that tend to bridge or get hung on the pouch opening. The bags are positioned underneath the duckbill before lowering the filling spout into the mouth of the bag and releasing its contents. This method helps to reduce spillage when filling pouches. In most cases the duckbill inserter is used below a Combination Weigh Scale system to contain and time the product to the packager. Vibratory Rotary Cutoff ![]() VRC fillers provide automatic product loading using a series of vibratory conveyors and a rotary cup dispenser. Product volume can be adjusted by controlling the speed of the vibratory conveyors. The VRC is capable of achieving very low fill weights which cannot be achieved with many fillers, including most scales. The VRC is ideal for products that cannot be sheared or cut during the filling process such as marshmallows and raisins, as well as dried vegetables and beans. Slide Gate ![]() Slide Gate fillers utilize a sliding-gate product cutoff to dispense predetermined quantities of product. The fill volume range on these fillers is from a minimum of .40 in3 (8.2 cm3) to 16.0 in3 (262 cm3) depending on the model. Easily interchangeable product cups and a volume fine adjustment control allow quick setup of proper weights. Speeds up to 120 fills per minute are possible depending on product characteristics such as volume, density and shape. Slide Gate fillers are commonly used for noodles, rice, and freeze-dried vegetables. Towelette ![]() The Towelette Folder/Feeder (TFF) uses towelette web material which can be pleated, folded, and inserted into the pouch prior to top sealing. Typically, a Liquid Pump filler is combined with a TFF to add a dose of liquid to the pouches. Speeds up to 270 individual pads per minute are attainable when utilizing a three-lane TFF integrated with an IM packager running three up pouches. This operating principle can also be used to form and fold nylon, polyester, or polyethylene bags as well as coupons, recipes, and similar single-sheet promotional materials and insert them into pouches. |
